When I was a kid, my favorite restaurant was

a Chinese restaurant, where my parents took me sometimes on the weekend when we were in the city. Chinese restaurants were not at all common where I grew up, so I was really impressed by all the decorations, including a little dragon on the ceiling. I remember my mom was laughing a lot because we were ordering all the unfamiliar dishes and were trying to eat them with chopsticks. It was a lot of fun!

When I was a kid, my favorite restaurant was

a Romanian ski hut on our way from the alpine ski training. I was around five years old, and I remember I was very hungry after being in the snow the whole morning. I was always ordering fries with ketchup – it’s silly but I still remember them as the best fries I’ve ever had.

When I was a kid, my favorite restaurant was

Baskin-Robbins! It’s not really a restaurant, but as a kid, I had a skin allergy, so I was not allowed to eat sweets. The only exception was when we were going to the movies and then I and my sister could choose a Baskin-Robbins ice-cream bowl at the mall. That was the best! I also now think that my dad couldn’t resist the ice cream himself, that’s why it was allowed :)

When I was a kid, my favorite restaurant was

shawarma kiosk on my way back from school. The Arab owner always gave me a big shawarma for the price of a small one. He always said I looked very smart and smart kids need a lot of food for their brains. I was very happy about it as a kid.

When I was a kid, my favorite restaurant was

a cevapcici joint where my parents took me when we were on summer holidays in Montenegro. I was around 8 years old, and always after swimming and building sandcastles in the morning, we went to this place for lunch. I remember being very hungry and really enjoying the spiced taste of the grilled meat back then.

When I was a kid, my favorite restaurant was

a burger restaurant with pool tables, that was next to the village where I grew up. I was around 10 years old when my parents took me to this place. Not only I tried the burger for the first time, but I also played pool for the first time there. It was amazing! I left with a lot of positive emotions which I remember to this day.

When I was a kid, my favorite restaurant was

McDonalds! In the city where I grew up there was no McDonalds, but one day I went on a bus tour with my class and we stopped there to eat. Everyone was in awe! I remember all my classmates ordered a Happy Meal, but I decided to order a Big Mac menu. I was then very proud that I got the biggest hamburger.

How it all started

A restaurant employee putting food in a takeaway bag
Having plunged into the food services industry while running a restaurant startup, they have uncovered several big challenges that can be solved through technology – and spoon.tech was born.

Our Story

Our founders, Daniil and Rares have been running a successful restaurant business in Vienna since 2020. Coming from both business (Daniil worked at McKinsey & Company) and software development (Rares is a full stack engineer and a tech wizard), they started to solve challenges in restaurant operations through technology.
That’s when they realized they could apply what they created for their own restaurant to the industry as a whole – and Spoon was born.

The key to a successful business is its employees. Without strong and competent employees a restaurant is just a building with four walls.
Our mission is to simplify restaurant processes and enable restaurant employees through meaningful, intuitive and engaging trainings.
